Rates
I have a "usual rate" that I normally quote when asked for my rate, but generally speaking I'll accept a client's proposed rate if it is reasonable. Although I usually quote in Euro, I will accept payment in most currencies.
Translation: English -> Afrikaans
EUR 90.00 per 1000 words
approx GBP 60.00 per 1000 words
or approx USD 0.12 per word
Editing, reviewing and proofreading
EUR 50.00 per hour
If you prefer a per-word rate for reviewing and proofreading, my usual rate is EUR 25 per 1000 words. There is no per-word rate for editing. I'm generally very flexible with my reviewing rates.
Minimum rate: EUR 50.00
I have to charge a minimum rate because South African banks deduct a huge slice for international money transfers. The minimum rate can be waived if I get multiple jobs from you that add up to a single, large invoice.
Localisation
My rate for localisation is usually the same as my rate for translation. The fact that some localisation strings are "easier" is off-set by the fact that localisation often requires extensive text processing and reworking.
